Skills Platform Explainer Video
In 2022, Cloud Academy needed a new platform explainer video in preparation for the biggest cloud tech industry event of the year, Re:Invent.
The marketing team approached me to see if my team could help. Our team was at capacity, but we decided to take it on in the interest of the company and seize an opportunity for team-building and heavy collaboration. This involved myself leading the art direction and project management, the IDs writing the script, the designers creating the assets and the animators splitting up scenes to animate.
This was a 6-week project crammed into 2.5 weeks with no budget.
Designing the Visuals
I developed this styleframe that leaned into the main problem of many enterprise IT teams having a “skills gap.” The original concept wanted to show that the reaching business objectives was attainable, but many people just need a small boost . I wanted this small team shown here to use Cloud Academy, who would be personified as a droid that would eventually lift them over to the business objectives area.
The concept was well received, but didn’t quite hit the mark. Marketing was hyper-focused on retention and expansions for enterprise level clients. We pivoted to a more corporate-friendly tone that retained some of the flare, but more targeted towards teams vs individual growth.
I repurposed a lot of artwork, character rigs, and settings from our library of assets and with the help of the team we built out a unified vision for the video.
The Outcome
We got it across the line in time, marketing and Sr Leadership was quite pleased and it got our team some excellent visibility across the org. It led to better collaboration across other teams including additional marketing and Product-related projects
