Soul Machines - Explainer Video
In winter 2025, an AI assistant company called Soul Machines tapped me to develop a video that blurs the line between a tutorial and a marketing video.
The company has a platform that enables businesses to create custom AI assistants in the form of 3D characters for internal help desks. These digital avatars can be trained on company-specific knowledge bases and give employees a more personalized experience. This video delves into some of the basic features and steps to creating and launching a new digital person.
Designing the Visuals
Soul Machines have a rather robust FAQ and support section and previoulsy had a video tutorial how to accomplish the same goals, but was more of a step-by-step guide. They were looking for a video that encourages users to explore the platform and “play” with the features to get the outcome they’re looking for.
I wrote the script centered around a mock company called pkThreads. This is intended to keep it relevant as a typical scenario and build a simple narrative around the video. When designing the visuals, I abstracted the UI to ensure viewers could follow along, but were still taking the time to get to know the platform and experiment on their own. The digital person, “Atlas” was intended to personify an activewear startup. We art directed Atlas and the narrator, “Isobel” within the platform to showcase the capabilities of the app as well as give it a little personality.
The Outcome
This video is launched on the support section and will also be heavily promoted on social media. It accomplished the goals of the marketing and development team and they will use the aessthetic I created in this video to build out the rest of their tutorial series.
